Older buildings need to be upgraded when new tenants move in. This means that while some older buildings appear to offer lower cost rents you may well need rewiring, new sub-mains and switchboards and even new circuits being run, as the older wiring is well below current requirements.

Ensure you check with the property manager prior to signing any lease regarding older wiring. Check whether the tenancy was previously two or more tenancies, as code requires each tenancy to have its own sub-board and you may have to merge two or more to bring the area back to code.
